U.S. ARMY 24TH PERSONNEL SERVICES BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 24th Personnel Services Battalion, previously designated as the 24th Personnel Services Company at the time of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, was a unit of the 24th Infantry Division. Its responsibilities included database management of records associated with personnel accounting and strength reports, casualty record-keeping and tracking, and personnel-information management systems, which included data on personnel evaluations, promotions/demotions, officer acquisition, and other personnel-related subjects. The 24th's motto of "Defend Serve Sustain" encapsulated much of the Battalion's mission, with the needs and welfare of individual Soldiers always a primary concern.

For its service between October and December 1994, the Battalion received an Army Superior Unit Award. In August 2007, the Battalion was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation for its deployment in Baghdad between February and December 2005 and its “exemplary service and support for combat operations.” And the Battalion was also one of many units whose service during the opening salvos of Operation Iraqi Freedom was recognized with a Presidential Unit Citation, issued on 24 November 2010.

The 24th Personnel Services Battalion was inactivated at the same time as the 24th Infantry Division in 2006.
