U.S. ARMY 238TH REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

The green and gold that that predominate the color palette of the 238th Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia are colors longtime associated with the Army; gold denotes excellence and also refers to the predecessor unit, the Kentucky Army National Guard Officer Candidate School. In the center of the saltier (“x” shape) is a lantern, symbolizing the light of knowledge and military leadership provided by the school and its newly commissioned Officers. Fifteen stars on the saltire reflect the fact that Kentucky was the fifteenth state admitted into the union. SEMPER DUCTUS, the Regimental motto, is Latin for “Always A Leader.” This insignia was approved on 1 May 2001.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
