U.S. ARMY 209TH SUPPORT GROUP UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Worn today by personnel in the 209th Regional Support Group, this Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally authorized for the 209th Support Group on 17 February 2006 (with an effective authorization date of 16 September 2006).

A green triangle forms the backdrop for the image of a sunburst behind the image of a Conestoga wagon resting astride a demi-shere; the triangle’s three points stand for the trio of Battalions originally assigned to the 209th Regional Support Group’s Command and Control. The demi-sphere is an allusion to the worldwide scope of the Group’s Support mission, while the sunburst recalls the rising sun of a brand new day just as the Group was a newly formed unit when the insignia was approved. A covered wagon is associated with pioneers heading west during the expansion of the United States in the mid-1800s and highlights the unit’s location Kansas City, Missouri, one of the main “jumping off” points for settlers beginning the journey west.

VERE FORTITUDO EXPEDITONE, the unit motto, translates as “True Power Of The Military."

As of Autumn 2023, the 209th Regional Support Group is allotted to the United States Army Reserve. It is assigned to the 76th Operational Response Command and is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri.
