U.S. ARMY 208TH REGIONAL SUPPORT GROUP UNIT CREST (DUI)

The Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment (HHD), 208th Regional Support Group was originally constituted on 16 September 2006 in the Army Reserve as the HDD, 208th Support Group. It was concurrently activated at San Antonio, Texas and subsequently ordered into military service on 15 May 2008 at its home station and was released from service on 18 June 2009; additionally, elements were ordered into active service during 2006 to 2009 to support the War on Terrorism.

Its location was changed on 16 September 2008 to Fort Jackson, South Carolina, where it was given its final designation of HHD, 208th Regional Support Group, a brigade-level headquarters that reported directly the Military Intelligence Readiness Command and managed the bulk of the Military Intelligence battalions in the Eastern United States. The Group was officially inactivated on 15 September 2015, almost nine years to do the day after it was organized, with a ceremony held on 1 August 2015 to commemorate the Battalion’s service life and celebrate its achievements.

The 208th Regional Support Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 6 October 2006 while the organization was still designated the 206th Support Group. In its center is a sword superimposed over a red lozenge inset in a white lozenge with a silver border. A symbol of constancy and reliability, the lozenge signifies the steadfastness of the Group’s support missions to coordinate training, deployment/redeployment, and inactivation requirements for attached or assigned units, both active and reserve. The upright sword indicates military readiness, while the start it rests upon implies the Group’s command-and-control powers and control structure. The star, as well as the red-white-blue color combination found in the insignia, are both adapted from the flag of Texas, the unit's home state. "Ride To The Sound Of The Guns" is the unit motto.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
