Most commonly referred to as a unit crest, the Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) of the 205th Regiment was first approved for the 205th Coast Artillery Regiment on 19 May 1942. It was subsequently redesignated for the 205th Artillery Regiment on 27 March 1961, and then for the 205th Air Defense Artillery Regiment on 6 July 1972. The insignia’s description and symbolism were revised when it was redesignated for the 205th Regiment on 21 May 1997.
The shield portion of the insignia is red, the color of Artillery, to commemorate the service of the Regiment’s predecessor unit, the 205th Air Defense Artillery. A silver bar with wavy borders simulates clouds, while the green bar represents earth; the fetterlock connecting the two symbolizes the link between earth and the things above. “RES VERAE,” the Regimental motto, translates as “Data Correct.”
Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦
