Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been
authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

The 19th Aviation Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 13 September 1966. In its upper half, a tapered silver chevron is a reference to fixed-wing aircraft, while the two discs beneath its wing tips represent rotary-wing aircraft (the 19th Aviation Battalion used both types during its relatively short service life). A blue expanse behind the chevron alludes to the sky and thus the organization’s primary area of responsibility. “MOBILITAS” is the Battalion motto and translates into English as simply “Mobility.”
The 19th Aviation Battalion was originally constituted as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment (HHD), 19th Aviation Battalion on 28 May 1964 in the Regular Army and activated 1 July 1964 at Fort Richardson, Alaska. It was reorganized and redesignated on 31 March 1969, with its HHD becoming a Headquarters and Headquarters Company. It was inactivated on 28 January 1972 at Fort Richardson; according to an article published in the Yukon Sentinel in 1984, it was concurrently redesignated as the 222nd Aviation Battalion, a unit that was one of the largest and most diverse aviation units in the Army but which has apparently not been active since the 1980s or early 1990s.
