U.S. ARMY 158TH FINANCE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Approved on 3 April 2000, the 158th Finance Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia—also known as a “unit crest” or referred to as a DUI—features the Finance Corps colors of silver gray and golden yellow that recall the days of “hard money” and the use of gold and silver coins to settle debts public and private. The black area of the insignia denotes financial solvency and unit solidarity. Also in the black area is a crossed key and sword with a lozenge (diamond shape) superimposed over them; the key symbolizes the security of funds, the sword denotes military preparedness, and the lozenge is taken from the branch insignia of he Finance Corps.

In the top area of the insignia is a gold disc representing the sun while simultaneously referring to coinage, finance, and the exchange of money. The embattlement around the disc suggest the canyon terrain of Arizona (“Grand Canyon State”), and the motto is Spanish for “Serving Soldiers.”

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
