Assigned to 7th Infantry Division, the 107th Military Intelligence Battalion was constituted in the Regular Army with that designation on 1 June 1983. Concurrently, the 601st Army Security Agency Company and the 7th Military Intelligence Company were reorganized and redesignated as the newly formed Battalion’s A and B Companies.
Inactivated at Fort Ord in 1993, the Battalion as whole was credited with participation in only one campaigns, Operation Just Cause in Panama, and earned no military decorations, but it’s A and B Companies had taken part in a total of fourteen campaigns (four Korean War campaigns by Company A, nine Vietnam War campaigns by Company B) and had each earned a Meritorious Unit Commendation, and in 1950 Company B had additionally been awarded a Philippine Presidential Unit Citation for its service between October 1944 and July 1945.
The flash approved for the 107th Military Intelligence, Long Range Surveillance Detachment (LSRD) is worn on the maroon beret, reflecting the Airborne status of the Battalion and its subordinate units. The background trimming, or oval, is worn beneath authorized Parachutist and Air Assault Badges worn on Service Uniform Coats and Shirts and the blue or green Army Maternity Tunic (female Soldiers only).
