Short for “Organizational Flash,” a flash is an embroidered, shield-shaped patch that is sewn centered onto the stiffener of the beret. Soldiers who are authorized to wear the Green (Special Forces), Tan (Rangers), Maroon (Airborne) or Brown (Security Force Assistance Command wear a distinctive organizational flash in lieu of the standard Army flash worn by all other Soldiers.
The flash is centered and sewn onto the stiffener of the beret, with either Distinctive Unit Insignia or a Regimental Distinctive Insignia worn centered on the flash.
Constituted on 18 June 1987 in the Regular Army, the 106th Military Intelligence Battalion was assigned to the 6th Infantry Division and activated at fort Richardson, Alaska. It was inactivated on 15 June 1994.
This flash is authorized for the Long-Range Surveillance Detachment (LRSD) from the Battalion’s C Company.
