Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
For Enlisted personnel, the insignia is centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.
Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e),
"Beret" and
"Garrison Cap," respectively.

A component of the United States Army Reserve Readiness Training Center, the Readiness Training Academy is located at Fort Knox, Kentucky. It is TRADOC accredited and has been tasked with developing learning application and educating the Total Force—Active Duty, Army National Guard, and Army Reserve—in the principles of Readiness, Leadership, Security, and Sustainment and their application in an operational environment.
The Readiness Training Academy Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved on 30 October 1990, a time when the United States Army Reserve Readiness Training Center was located at Fort McCoy in Wisconsin. A modified triangle of red, white, and blue approximates the shape of the cantonment area of Fort McCoy, which had served as the Center’s home since it was established in 1974.
A Minuteman in profile is surmounted on the red, white, and blue, the colors of United States Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) to illustrate the cooperation and cohesion between the Army Reserve and FORSCOM. The triangle’s sections correspond to the organization’s three key functions: Readiness, Academics, and Administration Support, with a motto of “Readiness Through Training” referencing the Center’s success at its mobilization mission.
