U.S. ARMY LOGISTICS UNIVERSITY UNIT CREST (DUI)

Rendered entirely in gold and black, the U.S. Army Logistics University Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), commonly known as a “unit crest,” was originally approved on 5 April 1957 for the Army Logistics Management Center, with the wording used for the description subsequently changed on 3 April 1958 and again on 28 April 1958. On 21 August 1987, the insignia was redesignated, with symbolism and description appropriately revised, for the U.S. Army Logistics Management College. It was given its current designation for the United States Army Logistics University on 1 October 2009.

A large black star in is the insignia’s most noticeable element; it is taken from the badge of the General Staff to denote that the organization was originally under the control of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics. The key is the storekeeper's key, an emblem long associated with supplies and provision. A torch resting behind the key, with its flame symbolizing the enlightenment provided by learning, represents the University’s training function.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia."

A subordinate command of the United States Army Combined Arms Support Command, the U.S. Army Logistics University opened its doors on 2 July 2009, one day shy of the 55th anniversary of the debut of a 12-week Army Supply Management Course that laid the foundation for the University’s creation.

That course quickly led to the establishment of the U.S. Army Logistics Management Center in 1956, which eventually evolved into the U.S. Army Logistics Management College, immediate predecessor of the Logistics University. Today, the University comprises three colleges (Logistics Leader, Professional and Continuing Education, and Technical Logistics), an academy for Logistics NCOs, and a Faculty and Staff Development program.
