Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Very little information regarding the history of the 93rd Medical Battalion can be found online from readily available public sources. We do know that the Headquarters of the 93rd Medical Battalion (Dental Service) was activated on 30 June 1993 as a result of a restructuring initiative known as Medical Force 2000. Based in Heidelberg, the unit replaced the 2nd Medical Detachment as the Dental Command and Control HQ for all Dental Companies stationed in Europe at that time.
By 2000, the Battalion was assigned to the 30th Medical Brigade, V Corps, and in 2009 the Battalion’s HQ and HQ Detachment was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation for service between 4 March 2003 and 20 September 2003, presumably in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The Institute of Heraldry does not have an entry for the 93rd Medical Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (though its database does confirm that “Trained Ready Dedicated” was the Battalion motto) and the U.S. Army Center of Military History has no information on the unit’s origins, lineage, or history except for its Meritorious Unit Commendation listed in Army General Order 2009-15.
