U.S. ARMY 905TH SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 905th Contingency Contracting Battalion (CCB) Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) was originally approved for the 905th Support Battalion on 2 February 2010. Although The Institute of Heraldry’s Web page for the 905th Support Battalion DUI does not show it being redesignated for the 905th CCB, which was stood up in October 2009, it nonetheless is worn by that Battalion’s personnel.

Buff and scarlet, colors traditionally associated with Support units, are found in the upper portion of the shield and in the gold-trimmed arrowhead, while the black in the lower portion is a reference to financial solvency (“in the black”) and the gold trim, highlights, and text is emblematic of integrity and honor in the Battalion’s contract service and its level of customer support.

Beginning in 1 October 2022, operational control of the 905th Contracting Battalion was realigned from Army Contracting Command to the U.S. Mission and Installation Contracting Command in order to expand the MICC’s mission to provide acquisition support for U.S. Army Special Operations Command. As of Winter 2024, the 905th Contracting Battalion is based at Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg) in North Carolina.

Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
