U.S. ARMY 902ND CONTRACTING BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 902nd Contracting Battalion was originally approved for the 902nd Support Battalion on 20 July 2007. Its scarlet, white, and blue tones recall the National colors as well as the colors of Army Materiel Command, the organization’s top commanding unit.

The tripartite design of the shield is taken from the insignia of Army Materiel Command, while the globe, oriented to feature the Pacific Rim, points to the organization’s area of operations; its gold color is for excellence. A snow-covered peak in the upper portion of the shield is a stylized rendering of Mt. Rainier which dominates the skyline view from Fort Lewis, Washington, home base for the Battalion. Alpha and Omega, first and last letters in the Greek alphabet, are an allusion to the contracting process for all classes of services and supplies required to meet the Warfighter’s need both an and off the field of battle.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
