Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

The 55th Personnel Services Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 13 February 1995. It features a shield containing a lion passant, embattled wall, and a fleur-de-lis surrounded by a scarlet scroll containing the unit motto, “Always There In Support.”
The dark blue of the shield’s chief (top third) and the scarlet of the scroll are the colors associated with the Adjutant General’s Corps, while the gold used for the lion, embattled wall, and motto text is emblematic of excellence and honor. Scarlet is also the color of sacrifice and valor. The lion, embattlements, and the fleur-de-lis all serve to commemorate the unit’s campaign credits and introduction to combat in World War II: the fleur-de-lis is for the Southern France campaign, the lion is for Rome, and the battlements for Central Europe, home of ancient fortresses and castles.
As part of the transformation of the U.S. Army, the 55th Personnel Services Battalion was inactivated on 7 February 2007. Its mission had been provide postal support and personnel services in its Area of Responsibility (AOR); assist in the transition between war and stability operations; deploy the Battalion’s subordinate elements; and sustain operations.
