More commonly referred to as a unit crest, the Distinc-tive Unit Insignia of the 239th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team was approved on 16 October 2006. The shield portion of the insignia has background of teal, the color of units that are branch immaterial, and is charged with images signifying the various branches represented by the Battalion’s component units: a key, a lighting flash/bolt, and a Bowie knife, all surmounted by an embattled chief.’
The key is a symbol of Military Intelligence responsibilities; the lightning flash is the most common image used to denote Signals operations; and embattlements are always associated with Engineer units. A Bowie knife points to the infantry role of the parent organization, the 39th IBCT (the Bowie knife has been the individual weapon of senior leaders in the brigade since the creation of the brigade in 1967). The arrow on the wavy bar at the top represents a river and is an allusion to the early Indian symbol for Arkansas, the unit’s home state. UTRINQUE PARATUS, the unit motto, is Latin for “Ready For Anything.”
Guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Headquartered in Conway, Arkansas and part of the Arkansas Army National Guard, the 239th Brigade Engineer Battalion was formed on 1 September 2005 as the Special Troops Battalion, 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team—also called the 39th Special Troops Battalion for short—and organized from separate companies in the Brigade. These included the 239th Engineer Company, which became the Battalion’s Alpha Company; the 239th Military Intelligence Company, which became Bravo Company; and Company D, 212th Signal Battalion, the Charlie Company of the Special Troops Battalion.
A change in Army doctrine led to the transitioning of Special Troop Battalions (STBs) to Brigade Engineer Battalions, and on 15 September 2018 the 39th STB was reflagged as the 239th Brigade Engineer Battalion, retaining this Distinctive Unit Insignia.
