U.S. ARMY 192ND AVIATION REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

The Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 192nd Aviation Regiment was approved on 2 December 1991. It features a shield rendered in ultramarine blue, a color long associated with Army Aviation, with a golden eagle rising in its center. The eagle, of course, is not only a symbol of the United States in general, but of Army Aviation in particular, and its portrayal in a controlled rise from a resting position visually emphasizes the unit motto of “Air Ground Control.” The contrast between the bright golden eagle and the rich ultramarine blue recalls the juxtaposition of day and night Aviation operations and denotes the unit’s capability to execute them; gold is also the color of excellence in Army heraldry.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 192nd Aviation Regiment was an Army Aviation organization allotted to Puerto Rico and originally consisted up of elements from that territory as well as from North Carolina, Alabama, and Maine. Although documentation regarding its history is essentially nonexistent as far as readily accessible public records are concerned, it has obviously been inactive for at least two decades (and likely much longer). We encourage anyone with information on the 192nd Aviation Regiment's lineage or history to email us so we can share that information with visitors to our Web site.
