U.S. ARMY 110TH MAINTENANCE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Commonly called a unit crest or DUI for short, the 110th Maintenance Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 7 July 1970. The crimson used for the scroll and light blue for the pillars are the colors associated with Maintenance units. Three pillars in the center have a dual meaning: Taken from the great seal of the state of Georgia, they represent the unit’s home station while also serving as a symbol of support and upkeep, alluding to the organization’s basic mission.

In the center is a fireball with four jets of flame at the four primary compass points separated by fleurs-de-lis; together they refer to the Battalion’s four World War II battle honors (for serving the Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe campaigns) that were earned while the unit was designated as the 945th Field Artillery. “Maintenance Or Cadence” is the Battalion motto.

A unit in the Georgia Army National Guard, the 110th Maintenance Battalion was redesignated as the 110th Corps Support Battalion at some point in the mid-1990s, and later was redesignated as the 110th Combat Service Support Battalion. It does not appear that this insignia was redesignated for either of those designation.
