U.S. ARMY 105TH FINANCE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 105th Finance Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia is crafted in the silver gray and golden yellow, branch colors of the Finance Corps that were selected because of the longtime use of actual silver and gold as currency. Black diamonds (called “lozenges” in heraldry” are adapted from the branch insignia of the Finance Corps; in heraldry, black generally represents solidarity or solidity, and in the case of Financial insignias it stands for solvency.

A nib-down quill pen alludes to the bookkeeping and accounting functions of the organization. “At All Costs,” the Battalion motto, is on the one hand an expression of commitment to duty and on the other a slight play on words based upon the Battalion’s money-distribution responsibilities, one of just a few of the functions of Finance Battalions. Indeed, many Finance Battalions have been redesignated as Financial Management Support Units and offer expertise to Army personnel and their family on topics such as borrowing and interest rates, retirement plans, and wealth management strategies.

The 105th Finance Battalion is not active under that designation. It might have been inactivated, disbanded, or redesignated. While still active it was based at Fort Bliss, Texas.
