U.S. ARMY 103RD SUPPORT GROUP UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

The buff (gold) and scarlet used throughout the 103rd Area Support Group Distinctive Unit Insignia are colors closely associated with units involved in the Support mission. In its center are two eagles facing each other and divided by an upright sword; the eagles represent the United States and Germany, the location of the unit throughout outs brief service life, and also embody the unit motto of “Partners In Excellence.” The swords represents military strength and service to the individual Soldier. Approval of the insignia came on 9 July 1993, just under three months prior to the inactivation of the 103rd Area Support Group.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 103rd Area Support Group was one of several units the Army established in the early 1990s to replace its system of U.S. Military Communities, with each Area Support Group commanding one or more Base Support Battalions and smaller units called Area Support Teams. The 103rd Area Support Group was supported by the 233rd Base Support Battalion, which previously had been the U.S. Military Community Activity Darmstadt, officially established in 1974. Activated in October 1991, the 103rd Area Support Group was inactivated two years later on 1 October 1993, with the 233rd Base Support Battalion being reassigned to the 104th ASG.
