In the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the two-star insignia represents a grand total of two titles—Vice National Commodore (VNACO) and Deputy National Commodore (DNACO)—comprising five distinct offices: VNACO, DNACO-Recreational Boating Safety, DNACO-Operations, DNACO-Mission Support, and DNACO-Information Technology and Planning. All but one of these offices is filled by votes—the VNACO by National Board Members and three DNACOs by voting members of the National Executive Committee. The DNACO-ITP is appointed by the National Commodore (NACO) in consultation with the VNACO and immediate past National Commodore (IPNACO).
The Auxiliary manual calls for the wear of a sew-on embroidered version of the two-star VNACO/DNACO collar device on the Operational Dress Uniform (its wear is optional on the Jump suit). To properly attach the device, orient it so the letter “A” is tilted 90 degrees left or right to face inboard and the two stars are arrayed vertically (the devices comes with the stars correctly arrayed point-to-point). Measuring from the center of the lowest star, place it one inch from the bottom and outer collar edges respectively.
