Coast Guard District Commodores (DCO) and Assistant National Commodores (ANACO) share the same insignia, a single star, designating their respective organizational leadership positions. On pin-on metal insignia, a DCO insignia has a blue “A” mounted on the star and an ANACO a red, but a black “A” is used for both positions on the sew-on embroidered insignia mandated for wear as a collar device on the Operational Dress Uniform. (Auxiliary regulations do permit DCO and ANACO office holders to wear a sew-on embroidered device on the Jump suit, but it is not required.)
The single star is positioned on the collar so that its center is one inch from both the collar’s outer and bottom edges. It is then rotated 90 degrees left or right so that the top of the letter “A” is facing inboard.
