In the Coast Guard Auxiliary, two-star insignias are worn by the elected Vice National Commodore (VNACO) and four Deputy National Commodores (DNACOs) overseeing four missions: Operations, Recreational Boating Safety, Mission Support, and Information Technology. Three of the DNACOs (O, RBS, MS) are elected to represent the three Auxiliary Areas (Atlantic Areas East and West and the Pacific Area). The DNACO-IT, on the other hand, is appointed by the National Commodore, reflected in the red “A” instead of blue for an elected official.
When worn as collar devices, the two stars worn by these officers aligned point-to-point with a single ray pointing toward the top edge of the collar. For correct placement, the first star is positioned so that its center, not the tip of a ray, is an inch from the leading edge of the collar and an inch from the top edge of the collar. The stars should be adjusted so that they are parallel to the top edge.
