An oriental blue scroll with silver gray text displaying the unit motto DE COLLE (“From The Hills”) is a visual cue that this Distinctive Unit Insignia is for an organization in the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Corps, specifically the 713th Military Intelligence Group. Silver gray is also used for two of the insignia’s most striking images—a trio of castle towers and a lion rampant.
Towers are longstanding symbols of strength and defense in heraldry; the presence of three of them denotes the Group’s mission as the executive agent for the Joint Combined Operations and Installation at Menwith Hall Station. The green triangle with the lion also alludes to the Group’s location in Great Britain at Menwith Hall Station near Harrogate, and a black star on the lion is used to indicate a U.S. military presence in the United Kingdom.
The unit motto, DE COLLE, translates in English a “From The Hills” and is another reference to the unit’s location. The 713th Military Intelligence Group Distinctive Unit Insignia, better known to most Soldiers as a unit crest or a DUI, was approved on 17 July 1997.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
