The 419th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion was originally known as the 419th Quartermaster Battalion, which itself was first constituted as the 24 June 1921 in the Organized Reserves as the 94th Division Train, Quartermaster Corps before being redesignated as the 419th Quartermaster Regiment in July 1936 and then the 419th Quartermaster Battalion in February 1942. It is not clear when the unit was redesignated as a Support Battalion or later as a Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, but regardless of that time frame, the unit motto of “First In Service, ” displayed on a scroll attached to the shield portion of the 489th Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, is as applicable now as it ever was.
In July 2012, the Battalion was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation for its service between 4 November 2008 and 3 October 2009 in support of the 10th Sustainment Brigade in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
A United States Army Reserve unit, the 419th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion is headquartered in Tustin, California and is a component of the 653rd Regional Support Group, 311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command. In addition to its Headquarters and Headquarters Company, it consists of four Transportation Companies and a Transportation Detachment.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
