Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.
More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and
"Garrison Cap," respectively.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 200th Engineer Battalion was originally approved for the 203rd Infantry Battalion on 15 December 1954, which is the reason blue and white—current and former branch colors for Infantry—are featured more prominently than the scarlet associated with Engineer units.
Five years later, it was redesignated for the 203rd Field Artillery Battalion on 2 December 1959 but was rescinded on 28 September 1976. It was reinstated and redesignated on 23 July 1982 when it was approved for the 156th Military Police Battalion. It was redesignated for the 1200th Quartermaster Battalion on 30 November 1990, and a half-dozen years later was redesignated for the last time for the 200th Engineer Battalion.
A red saltire (“X” shape) inset in a white saltire recalls the design of the state flag of Alabama and thus the unit’s home area (the entire state rather than a sub-section is considered its home location). A linden leaf on a white (silver) disc is an allusion to the town of Linden, Alabama, site of the unit’s headquarters at the time the insignia was last approved. “En Route,” the Battalion motto, is French for “On The Way.”
As of January 2023, the 200th Engineer Battalion is not an active unit. It is unclear if it was inactivated/deactivated, redesignated, converted, or reorganized under a different designation.
