Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
Buff and light blue, colors traditionally associated with Quartermaster units, are incorporated in the 334th Quartermaster Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia with a pale blue fess and a buff background on the shield portion of the device. Here, the light blue is also a reference to the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns in which units of the Battalion’s lineage took part during World War II. A pair of black drops, called gutte de poix (“drop of pitch”) by The Institute of Heraldry, symbolize the unit’s mission to facilitate the delivery of petroleum to all units which it has been assigned to support. Two diagonally oriented, crossed spears denote military readiness and strength. “Fueling The Fight” is the unit motto.
