The 1-1/8th-inch scarlet stripe that runs down the outer seam of each Trouser leg distinguishes NCOs and SNCOs from Enlisted Marines (no stripe), Officers ranked Colonel or below (1.5-inch stripe), and General Officers (2-inch stripe).
