Combination Caps are authorized for wear with most Coast Guard Auxiliary uniforms; exceptions include Undress Blue – Summer (Bravo), the Operational Dress Uniform, Working Blue, jump-suit uniforms, and the Blue Blazer. It is mandatory with the Service Dress White or Blue and Dinner Dress uniforms.
Like the United States Navy and Coast Guard, the Coast Guard Auxiliary employs different combinations of chin straps, visor ornamentation, and cap devices on the Men’s Combination Cap to make it easy to distinguish the different type of wearers even at a glance.
Officers will wear the Cap with a silver chin strap, with Commanders and Captains adding a single arc of oak leaves (“scrambled eggs”) on each side of the visor. Admirals add a second arc of oak leaves on both side of the visor. A 24-ligne retaining screw-cap button is used to secure the chin strap to the frame regardless of the Auxiliarist’s rank.
