Though a non-military organization, the Coast Guard Auxiliary nonetheless uses military-style rank insignia to designate the office or position held by the wearer. Understandably, the Auxiliary draws heavily upon Navy and Coast Guard tradition for their designs, such as the use of sleeve stripes or lacing to reflect rank/position.
One half-inch stripe and one quarter-inch lace stripes is worn by Auxiliarists serving as Flotilla Vice Commander (VFC) and Division Staff Officers (SO). The half-inch lace is placed 2 inches above the cuffs on the Dinner Dress Blue Jacket and the Service Dress Blue Coat, and the quarter-inch lace is placed a quarter-inch above it. Each lace must completely encircle the sleeve, with the ends terminating inside the back seam.
Customers purchasing Coast Guard Auxiliary sleeve lacing may also wish to purchase the sew-on Auxiliary shields that are mounted 1/4-inch above the topmost stripe.
