USPHS COMMISSIONED CORPS SLEEVE DEVICES

Similar to the United States Navy (star) and U.S. Coast Guard (shield), Officers in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps were a device or emblem above their sleeve stripes indicating their branch of service: an upright caduceus mounted at almost a 90-degree angle to the shank of a fouled anchor.

Regulations call for a full-size version of this Corps device (1-3/16” x 1-3/16”) to be sewn on the outer part of he sleeve, centered between the front and back creases and positioned 1/4-inch above the topmost sleeve stripe. A Corps device is worn on both sleeves with the anchor facing forward, so they are consequently sold in mirror-image pairs.
