Display your pride of service with our Petty Officer Second Class belt buckle. Authorized by Navy uniform regulations as an optional wear item, this buckle features the Petty Officer Second Class (PO2) insignia of a perched eagle above two chevrons (the same insignia is used for the devices worn on the Garrison Cap and Ball Cap).
Advancement to PO2 is a competitive process because of a limited number of vacancies in the E-5 rate. In addition to having their Commanding Officer’s recommendation for promotion to the PO2 rate of E-5, Sailors must have accumulated three years time-in-service and a year spent as Petty Officer Third Class (E-4). Advancement examinations are held twice a year, with Sailors earning points in five different categories (their exam score, Performance Marks Average, Service in Paygrade, Awards, and Passed Not Advanced) that add up to their Final Multiple Scores.
All Sailors assigned to a designated warfare qualifying commands (Aviation Warfare, Surface Warfare, etc.) must also earn that command’s warfare qualification within 30 months of assignment
