Coast Guard Auxiliary District Staff Officers (DSO), District Commodore Administrative Assistants (D-AA) and Branch Chiefs (BC) are authorized to wear their insignia of leader position on several types of headgear, most notably the Garrison Cap, which may be worn with the Tropical Blue, Winter Dress Blue, and Undress Blue—Winter uniforms. All three of these appointed positions share the same insignia: a gold oak leaf mounted with a red letter “A.”
Auxiliarists appointed to one of these positions wear two types of headgear insignia on the Garrison Cap, with the insignia designating their organizational leadership placed on the right side. The center of the insignia should be two inches from the crease in front and an inch-and-a-half from the bottom of the cap. A small version of the Auxiliary cap device, famously worn on the combination cap, is worn on the left side of the Garrison Cap and is positioned in the same manner as the insignia of leadership position.
This insignia is worn by itself on the front of Auxiliary and Coast Guard unit baseball caps, centered horizontally and vertically between the first two lines of text. Auxiliarists may wear USCG unit ball caps only when commanded on assignment to a unit, and even in those instances authorization for wear does not extend to activities that involve interaction with the public.
