Special Operations Command Central, or SOCCENT, is a subordinate unified command of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM or USCENTCOM). As it name implies, it is tasked with planning special operations in the CENTCOM Area of Responsibility, a wide-ranging area that includes many nations in the Middle East, Central Asia, and Egypt. Other missions include the planning and overseeing joint/combined special operations training exercises.
SOCCENT has been the recipient of the Joint Meritorious Unit Award over the past two decades, earning its first JMUA in 2007 for its performance between 2 November 1999 and 15 March 2001. Four of the awards were for work carried out at the unit’s headquarters at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida (also home to U.S. Special Operations Command). SOCCENT also has a forward operating base in Qatar.
SOCCENT’s motto, “MOLON LABE,” is the response given by King Leonidas of Sparta before the Battle of Thermopylae when the invading Persians demanded that the Greeks surrender their weapons. Its English translation is "Come and take them."
Designed as the blue Army Service Uniform equivalent for the Former Wartime Service Insignia worn on the old Class A Green Service Uniform phased out in 2015, the design OF the SOCCENT Combat Service ID Badge, or CSIB, is based entirely on its colored FWTS insignia, also known as an SSI (Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, SSI) or unit patch.
