U.S. ARMY 780TH MILITARY INTELLIGENCE BRIGADE COMBAT SERVICE ID BADGE (CSIB)

The 780th Military Intelligence Brigade Combat Service ID Badge is based upon the color version of the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia - Military Operations in Hostile Conditions (SSI-MOHC) insignia and carries the same imagery and symbolism. You can learn about that symbolism by visiting our page devoted to the 780th Military Intelligence Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, also called a unit patch.

In 1998, the 704th Military Intelligence Brigade was assigned the task of developing a force to conduct computer network operations for the Army, and that same year B Company, 742nd Military Intelligence (MI) Battalion assumed that role. Two years later, the 742nd MI Battalion’s Detachment Meade was formed to address the need for a larger computer network operations force in June 2000. In 2007, that unit was redesignated as the Army Network Warfare Detachment before quickly transforming into the Computer Network Operations Task Force (CNOTF).

As the issue of cyberwarfare became more and more significant, the CNOTF was redesignated as the Army Network Warfare Battalion (Provisional) in June 2008 and the following year was offically activated, flagged, and designated as the 744th Military Intelligence Battalion (it was still known by the Army Network Warfare Battalion designation) in October 2009.

A little over a year later, the Army approved the establishment of an Army Cyber Brigade, and the wheels were set in motion for the creation of the 780th Military Intelligence Brigade to fill thatrole, with an effective date of 1 October 2011. On 1 December 2011, the colors for the 780th Military Intelligence Brigade were officially unfurled in an activation ceremony held at Fort George G. Meade in Maryland.

Today, the 780th MI Brigade comprises its Headquarters and Headquarters Company, the 781st and 782nd MI Battalions (based at Fort George G. Meade and Fort Gordon in Georgia, respecitively). Activated January 2019 and headquartered at Fort Eisenhower (formerly known as Fort Gordon), the 915th Cyber Warfare Support Battalion is assigned to Army Cyber Command, but the 780th MI Brigade was given command authority over the unit.
