U.S. ARMY 75TH RANGER REGIMENT, 3RD BATTALION COMBAT SERVICE ID BADGE

The Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB) worn by personnel of the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment—also called the 3rd Ranger Battalion—is based upon the unit’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia-Military Operations in Hostile Conditions insignia (SSI-MOHC). Also called a unit patch, that insignia was originally approved for the 75th Infantry Regiment on 26 July 1984 and was redesignated for the 75th Ranger Regiment on 14 February 1986. The 3rd Ranger Battalion’s patch, as well the patches for the 1st and 2nd Ranger Battalions, was approved on 26 July 1984.

Both the 75th Ranger Regiment’s unit patch and the patches for each of the Regiment’s five Battalions—the aforementioned numerically designated units, along with the 75th Ranger Special Troops Battalion and the 75th Ranger Military Intelligence Battalion—use the same scroll-style design with “RANGER” in the center fold.

The lineage of today’s 3rd Ranger Battalion has two branches that date back to 1943: Company A, 3rd Ranger Battalion (constituted July 21) and an element of the 5307th Composite Unit (Provisional) constituted in October in the China-Burma-India Theater of Operations. Since then, the Battalion’s forebears have taken part in every major conflict our Nation has faced, as well as in Armed Forces Expeditions in Panama and Somalia.

Since 2001, the Battalion or elements of it have deployed numerous times to Iraq and Afghanistan. During one of its first missions in Operation Iraqi Freedom, its B Company and elements of its C Company and HHC (HQ and HQ Company) earned a Valorous Unit Award for seizing the enemy-occupied Hadithah Dam in order to establish a communication line across the Euphrates River while simultaneously saving the dam from enemy destruction.

As of Autumn 2023, the 3rd Ranger Battalion is headquartered at Fort Moore, Georgia (previously designated Fort Benning) which also serves as the home of the 75th Ranger Regiment Headquarters.
