U.S. ARMY 4TH SUSTAINMENT BRIGADE COMBAT SERVICE ID BADGE (CSIB)

While the 4th Sustainment Brigade has undergone several changes in its structure and organization since its constitution in April, 1957, its commitment to its motto—Hem Perficite, Latin for "Just Get It Done"—has been a constant.

The unit was originally constituted as the 4th Infantry Division Trains, but was redesignated as a Division Support Command, or DISCOM, for the 4th Infantry Division and supported it when it was deployed to Vietnam in the summer of 1966. During its mission in Southeast Asia, it earned official credit for participation in eleven campaigns and was awarded three campaign streamers.

With the launch of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, the 4th Sustainment Brigade deployed to Kuwait with the responsibility of managing all logistics for Task Force Ironhorse, which comprised the 4th Infantry Division plus augmentations of artillery, engineer, National Guard, and Army Reserve units and at one point was composed of more than 27,000 troops. When its deployment came to an end, the brigade—unofficially nicknamed "Wranglers" as a play on "Ironhorse"—had delivered nearly 45,000 pieces of cargo, more than 100 million gallons of fuel, and managed convoys that logged more than 3.5 million miles of travel, in addition to training the Iraqi Army's 6th Truck Company. In October 2005, the unit replaced the 46th Corps Support Group and assumed logistical support duties for the Baghdad area.

On May 23, 2011, the brigade was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation for its work in Iraq during the period of 5 March 2008 to 1 June 2009 for "[setting] a new standard in regards to how a Sustainment Brigade is executed in theater." Organizationally, it now falls under the purview of the 13th Sustainment Command.

On its Combat Service Identification Badge, or CSIB, two conjoined inverted chevrons form a "W" that stands for the unit's nickname of "Wranglers." The alternating black and buff represent teamwork and the unit's cohesiveness, with the contrast between the colors symbolizing day and night for "round the clock" readiness. In the center is an ivy leaf, representative of the 4th Infantry Division which it supports. The ivy leaf is also found on the Unit Crest.
