At the time of its formation at Fort Richardson, Alaska in 2008, the 3rd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade (MEB) was envisioned a new type of unit, serving as a command-and-control headquarters for subordinate units such as CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radioactive, and Nuclear) soldiers, combat engineers, and military police. Among its stated duties were providing training and support for the 6th Engineer Battalion, the 17th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, the Arctic Military Police Battalion, and the Northern Warfare Training Center; each of those units were capable of separately deploying, and then the organizations under the command of each unit could deploy on its own.

As a Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), the 3rd MEB was organized in such a way as to meet peculiar needs of theater commanders, fine-tuning the duties of engineers, air defense, military police, explosive ordnance disposal, and other units as required by operational exigencies.

In September 2011, the 3rd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade was inactivated, with its personnel being assigned to HHC, 2nd Engineer Brigade.

The unit’s CSIB, or Combat Service Identification Badge, features gold and teal coloration; gold is the color of excellence and extraordinary achievement, while teal stands for the brigade’s multifaceted nature. Set in the teal background is the white outline of a mountain peak, representing the terrain of the unit’s location in Denali and Alaska.

Below the mountain, an unsheathed sword is emblematic of the warrior spirit embodied by the all members of the brigade. Three stars stand for the organization’s three main sub-units: Military Police Corps (green), Engineer (scarlet), and Chemical (cobalt blue). They also signify the brigade’s numeric designation. Picking up on the triune theme is the unit's motto of "Resolve, Protection, Strength" found on its Unit Crest.
