U.S. ARMY 38TH INFANTRY DIVISION COMBAT SERVICE ID BADGE (CSIB)

The 38th Infantry Division Combat Service ID Badge is taken from the color version of the Division’s unit patch, with the letters “CY” an abbreviation for the tornado or cyclone that leveled their training camp in Mississippi just before they were shipped overseas to France in October 1918. The "Cyclone" nickname was discontinued following World War II, where its commander (not General Douglas MacArthur) christened it the "Avengers of Bataan" for the lightning-like speed in expelling Japanese occupying forces from the Philippine Peninsula in 1944 – 495.

Since the launch of the Global War on Terror, the Division has been reorganized twice since being ordered in Federal Service in 2004. Over the course of three tours in Iraq and Afghanista, the Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion has been honored with two Meritorious Unit Commendations, the most recent awarded in 2014 for its actions as part of Task Force Caesar in 2013 – 2014. As of May 2019, it is stationed in Indianapolis, Indianapolis and is under the control of the Indiana Army National Guard.
