U.S. ARMY 199TH INFANTRY BRIGADE COMBAT SERVICE ID BADGE (CSIB)

The insignia used for the 199th Infantry Brigade Com-bat Service ID Badge (CSIB) is taken from the Brigade’s unit patch, or Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. A white spear in the center conveys the notion of closing with the enemy for close combat, one of the primary tactics of an Infantry unit in fulfilling its basic mission—but the orange flames and red heart of fire are the advanced firepower that has evolved over the years to complement in-close action.

Together, they stand for the Brigade’s uncompromising readiness to engage the enemy employing the “Light Swift Accurate” tactics that helped earn the Brigade the nickname “The Redcatchers” for their mission of finding and destroying Communist cadres in South Vietnam. In addition to serving in eleven campaigns in Vietnam, the Brigade was awarded a Valorous Unit Award (for its response during the Tet Offensive), a Meritorious Unit Commendation, two Republic of Vietnam Crosses of Gallantry with Palm, and a Republic of Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medal, First Class.

Since 2007, the 199th Infantry Brigade has been in charge of training Officers and overseeing training programs at the U.S. Army Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Moore (formerly Benning) in Georgia . Among the courses and programs it manages are the Armor Basic Officers Course, Heavy Weapons Leader Course, Infantry Basic Officer Course, Officer Candidate School, Maneuver Captains Career Course, Maneuver Tactics Foundation Course, and the Noncommissioned Officer Academy.
