The Armor branch has myriad reasons to be proud of its heritage and tradition, particularly when you add in the bravery and daring displayed by the Cavalry branch before it was absorbed into Armor in 1950. To honor luminaries from its past, the Armor branch adopted the habit of naming new vehicles after famous generals from its past—but only after the British inspired them by doing so on an informal basis during World War II. Funny thing about those Brits, though—they never did nickname an American tank after an officer or soldier from the Revolutionary War.
