In keeping with the everyday-wear purpose of a Service Uniform, the Army sought to minimize the number of insignias, badges, patches, and other accouterments authorized for the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) that was approved in 2018. One item deemed unnecessary was the nameplate, an accessory that had been standard on the two predecessors of the AGSU, the blue Army Service/Dress Uniform and the Army Green Uniform that was discontinued in October 2015.

But after considering extensive feedback from Soldiers and Officers alike, the Army announced in early 2022 that it had approved a nameplate designed specifically for the AGSU. Featuring a dark-brown matte finish, taupe lettering, and a beveled edge, the nameplate was approved as an optional item until October 2023, when its wear becomes mandatory on the AGSU Coat and Long- and Short-Sleeve Shirts, the Eisenhower “Ike” Jacket, and the Heritage Green 564 Pullover Sweater.

The nameplates measure 1” x 3” with 3/8” letters.
