Briefly inactivated following its constitution in the National Army as Headquarters, 80th Division on 5 August 1917, the 80th Training Command has had a variety of designations and missions over the years, including 80th Infantry Division, 80th Airborne Division, 80th Division (Training), 80th Division (Institutional Training), and 80th Training Command (TASS – The Army School System). It was given the last designation in 2008, taking command of the entirety of the The Army School System for the U.S. Army Reserve to train Soldiers in military fields of combat support and combat service support. It is headquartered in Richmond, Virginia.

The 80th Training Command (TASS) Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), commonly called a unit crest, was first approved on 27 May 1970 while the unit was designated as the 80th Division (Training), and it is a tribute to the astonishing performance of the 80th Division in France during both World Wars.
Two stars on a fleur-de-lis represent the two campaign streamers the 80th was awarded for the Somme Offensive and Meuse-Argonne. In World War II, the Division was honored with four streamers, and each of the campaigns is symbolized by a specific insignia component. The large, blue fleur-de-lis is Northern France; the sword stands for Central Europe; oak sprigs for Ardennes-Alsace; and the wavy scroll with the motto “Only Moves Forward” symbolizes the river of the Rhineland campaign.Related Items
