U.S. ARMY 600TH QUARTERMASTER COMPANY BERET FLASH

The organizational flash worn by personnel of the 600th Quartermaster Company (Aerial Equipment) (Airborne) was approved on 26 January 2005. Company Officers wear their nonsubdued, pin-on insignia of rank centered on the flash, when itself is worn centered on the stiffener of the maroon beret authorized for wear by members of Airborne-designated units. NCOs and Junior Enlisted Soldiers, on the other hand, wear their Distinctive Unit Insignia (or Regimental Distinctive Insignia if their current unit has no DUI) in the same fashion, centered on the flash.

The 600th Quartermaster Company was first constituted in the Army of the United States on 23 February 1943 as Company D, 687th Quartermaster Laundry Battalion. Activated the following May, the unit was reorganized and redesignated on 10 September 1943 the 600th Quartermaster Laundry Company, and under this designation it be deployed to Europe and fight in five Campaigns before being inactivated on 28 May 1946.

Allotted to the Regular Army on 10 January 1952 activated at Fort Devens, Massachusetts twelve days later. On 5 October 1953 it was given its current basic designation of 600th Quartermaster Company when it was reorganized and redesignated. Following inactivation in December 1956 at Fort Devens, the Company was reactivated nearly a dozen years later at Fort Bragg (now Fort Liberty) in North Carolina. Since then, the Company has been deployed to the Middle East on several occasions, the first time in 1990 in support of the First Gulf War; it was awarded two Meritorious Unit Commendations for its service during two of the conflict’s campaigns (Defense of Saudi Arabia and the Liberation and Defense of Kuwait).

Following the onset of the Global War on Terrorism and the launch of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Company has deployed at least twice to Iraq. In July 2008, it was tapped for a Meritorious Unit Commendation for its service between December 2006 and July 2007, and in December 2012 it was awarded another MUC for the period between March 2007 and April 2008.

As of Summer 2023, the 600th Quartermaster Company does not appear to be an active unit in the U.S. Army.
