U.S. ARMY 304TH SUSTAINMENT BRIGADE UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 304th Sustainment Brigade is a U.S. Army Reserve unit assigned to the 311the Expeditionary Sustainment Command, 79th Theater Sustainment Command and headquartered in Riverside, California. As of Autumn 2023, it consists of two Combat Sustainment Support Battalions (the 371st also based in Riverside and the 155th headquartered in South El Monte, California) and the 420th Transportation Battalion (Movement Control) headquartered in Sherman Oaks, California.

Often called a unit crest or referred to by the initialism DUI, the 304th Sustainment Brigade Distinctive Unit Insignia was first approved on 10 August 2005, while the unit was designated the 304th Support Center (it had originally been designated as the 304th Corps Materiel Management Center). It was redesignated for the 304th Sustainment Brigade on 1 February 2006.

The scarlet used liberally in the insignia indicates the organization’s status as a Support unit. A pair of crossed key denote the Supply and Maintenance duties of the 304th Support Center. An upright gold pillar is a symbol of the strength and support that the Center provided to Army Reverse installations and the Reserve units serving at them. As a common architectural component, the gold pillar is also a subtle allusion to the suburban landscape of the Los Angeles region in California, the “Golden State” and home of the unit; it also signifies the unit’s status as the “pillar of logistics” for I Corps while still designated the 304th Support Center, just one aspect of its role as “America’s Logistics Center.”

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
