U.S. ARMY 3RD TRANSPORTATION BRIGADE (EXPEDITIONARY) UNIT CREST

The Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 3rd Transportation Command was originally approved on 17 January 1973, when the formation was designated as the 3rd Transportation Brigade. It was subsequently reauthorized two more times, once on 16 September 1994 when the unit became the 3rd Transportation Agency and again almost exactly ten years later (17 September 2004) when the 3rd Transportation Command was established. The Command is now the 3rd Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary).

3rd Transportation Brigade’s unit crest is chock-full of colorful symbolism, with the Transportation branch colors of brick red golden yellow coursing throughout much of the design. A rising sun emits eight upward rays that symbolize the Command’s eight military decorations (six Meritorious Unit Commendations and two Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citations).

A white-bladed scimitar in the middle of the insignia combines with a red-blue taeguk and green backdrop to create the colors of the flag of Iran (green, white, and red), where a unit in the 3rd Transportation Brigade’s lineage firs deployed during World War II. A Korean taeguk reflects service in South Korea during the Korean War; the rising sun stands duty in Japan. Railway wheels recall the unit’s designation as a railway transportation component.
