U.S. ARMY 3RD MEDICAL COMMAND UNIT CREST (DUI)

Like the 3rd Medical Command’s Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB), the unit’s Distinctive Unit Insignia, or Unit Crest, uses a Maltese cross to represent the unit’s tradition of sacrifice in the performance of its service duties in the field. "Front Line Surgeons," the unit's motto, emphasizes the primary mission of the unit. (The Command's nickname, "Desert Medics," recalls their front-line service during Operation Torch during World War II). The two crossed scimitars stand for the unit’s participation in two Southwest Asia Campaigns, while the laurel sprigs symbolize the Command’s World War II campaigns.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 27 July 1992.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
