Very little official information is available on the 20th Aviation Battalion, which was activated in July 1967 and inactivated on 15 May 1970, aside from the fact that both events took at For Carson, Colorado: It earned no decorations and received no campaign participation credits.
However, it apparently was designated as or assigned to an Airborne unit because a flash and oval were created for it. Further, the same flash and oval are now worn by the 1st Battalion, 82nd Aviation, which is a component of the 82nd Airborne Division. The 82nd Aviation was formed in 1957 as the 82nd Aviation Company and assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. It was designated as the 82nd Aviation, a parent regiment in the United States in 1987.
