U.S. ARMY 149TH MANEUVER ENHANCEMENT BRIGADE UNIT CREST (DUI)

Technically called a Distinctive Unit Insignia or DUI for short, the unit crest of the 149th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade symbolizes both the unit’s long and arduous history and its formidable capabilities. Originally approved in 1971 for the 149th Armor Group, the insignia was redesignated a year later when the Group became a Brigade, and in 2006 it was redesignated again for the 149th Infantry Brigade Combat Team with an updated description. Its was redesignated for the 149th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade in 2008 .

"Never Defeated," the Brigade's motto, is inscribed in gold on a green scroll; green and gold are the official colors the Armor Branch. Blue is the color of the Infantry Branch and is used on the cuff of the gauntlet to reflect the unit's origins and longtime service as an Infantry unit. The three sections of the cuff refer to the three Asiatic-Pacific campaigns that the unit fought in during WWII, while the golden sun was taken from the coat of arms of the Philippines as a allusion to the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation the unit received for its service there. The gauntlet is a symbol of the striking power of the 149th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade.

At the bottom, the scarlet and gold palm branches and cubit arm rising upward are references to the Meritorious Unit Commendation the unit received during Operation New Dawn in Iraq in 2006. The unit’s motto can be seen on the green band, “Never Defeated”, a testament to the ability of the 149th.

As of Autumn 2023, the 149th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade is an active unit in the Kentucky Army National Guard. In addition to its Headquarters located in Richmond, Kentucky, the Brigade comprises two Engineer Battalions, a Chemical Battalion, a Military Police Battalion, and a Brigade Support Battalion.
