US ARMY 149TH MANEUVER ENHANCEMENT BRIGADE UNIT CREST

The unit crest of the 149th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade acts a symbol of both the unit’s long and arduous history and its formidable capabilities. A more comprehensive record of its history can be found with the unit’s Combat Service Identification Badge (CSIB). The unit crest was originally approved in 1971 for the 149th Armor Group. When the Group became a Brigade a year later, the crest was redesignated. In 2006 it was redesignated again for the 149th Infantry Brigade Combat Team with an updated description.  Most recently, when the unit took on its current designation of the 149th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade in 2008 the crest was redesignated a final time.
The primary colors on the crest are green and gold, and are representative of the Armor Branch of the military, which the 149th is a part of. The color blue on the cuff of the gauntlet is a reference to the multiple times the 149th has acted as an Infantry unit. The three sections of the cuff refer to the three campaigns that the unit fought in during WWII, the New Guinea, Leyte, and Luzon campaigns. The golden sun was taken from the coat of arms of the Philippines, indicative of the award of the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation the unit received fighting there. The gauntlet is a symbol of the striking power of the 149th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade. At the bottom, the scarlet and gold palm branches and cubit arm reference the Meritorious Unit Commendation the unit received during Operation New Dawn in Iraq in 2006. The unit’s motto can be seen on the green band, “Never Defeated”, a testament to the ability of the 149th. Its unit patch, identical to its CSIB, can be found here.
