U.S. ARMY 140TH AVIATION REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Aviation branch colors ultramarine blue and orange stand out against the silver wings and background of the insignia, with two downward arrows signifying World War II assault landings during the Southern Philippines and Luzon campaigns, while two star denote participation in the Bismarck Archipelago and Leyte campaigns (World War II credits are from the lineage of the existing units used to form the 140th Aviation in 1987). The blue triangle is inspired by the Philippine Presidential Seal and Standard and alludes to the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation awarded to an element of the aforementioned units. Wings denote the organization’s Aviation mission, and the motto CURA ET PERFECTIO translates as “Accuracy And Perfection.”

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Constituted as the 140th Aviation in the California Army National Guard on 31 July 1987, today’s 140th Aviation Regiment underwent eight reorganizations in eighteen years between 1988 and 2006; today it comprises the 1st and 3rd Battalions. Because it was formed so recently, official Regimental battle honors are limited to an Iraqi Governance campaign streamer from the War on Terrorism (Company C, 1st Battalion is additionally entitled to the Iraqi Surge campaign streamer). The Regiment was also the recipient of a Meritorious Unit commendation for service in Iraq from 2010-2011; Company C, 1st Battalion had previously been awarded an MUC for its Iraq service from September 2007 to July 2008.
